In 2006, whilst enjoying a round of golf, Lennie Norris - the founder of U Talk Health (pictured) - was struck from the blue by intense chest pains. After being rushed to the nearest hospital, a doctor pronounced the passing of a mild heart attack, and Lennie was made to stay in his ward bed for a full week.

Having spent little time as an actual patient in any hospital, Lennie found that time passed slowly and in-depth information on his condition was not forthcoming. Although his NHS treatment was professional, the doctor-patient divide was very obvious.

Recovering at home, Lennie turned to the World Wide Web for the hard facts about heart attacks - and found the results exasperating. There was so much out there; how much of it was relevant? And how reputable were the sources? Searching via Google threw up more and more questions that required specialist knowledge to decipher the answers.

This experience gave rise to the idea of a new website, where those suffering from a particular illness could find the information they needed quickly and simply. The chief aim of the site would be to get people talking about their illness. In this way, they could share their collective experience and read tailored medical information - all in one place.

U Talk Health is primarily about chatrooms: you will find one devoted to every illness that features on this site. Supporting these chatrooms are open forums, where you can post messages or queries and wait for other sufferers to respond. You can also visit our extensive library to find other relevant websites that you may not be aware of.

Most importantly, however, U Talk Health is about you - the online community. We want this site to offer a form of social networking, where people with similar medical concerns can meet online and share their thoughts. Our content will always be user-driven: if a particular illness does not appear in our directory, just let us know and we will endeavour to add it as soon as possible. We hope you enjoy the website!
